Floyd County Supervisors Get Update on Heartland Greenway Carbon Pipeline Project

For the second time this month, the Floyd County Board of Supervisors got a firsthand update on a carbon capture pipeline project.

At their regular meeting Monday, Supervisors heard from representatives from Navigator CO2 Ventures, which wants to start one leg of their Heartland Greenway carbon pipeline with the Valero Renewables ethanol plant west of Charles City.

Heartland’s Elizabeth Burns-Thompson says the company thus far has been doing survey work for the possible pipeline route.

While easement negotiations have not yet begun, Burns-Thompson says they’ve already gotten some input on what landowners might want in their agreements with the company.

Burns-Thompson says the company is planning on submitting their permit application for the pipeline this fall with hopes of starting construction in early 2024.

Supervisors also recently heard from Summit Carbon Solutions which wants its Midwest Carbon Express carbon pipeline to start with the Homeland Energy Solutions ethanol plant between Lawler and New Hampton. They would then build west through Floyd and Cerro Gordo Counties among others.
