Supply Chain Delays TLC Move Into Former Charles City Middle School

The supply chain has delayed The Learning Center’s (TLC) move into the 1970’s portion of the former middle school building in Charles City.

TLC Director Pal Ost says while remodeling and renovation continues inside the building, vital work on the outside of the building has them in a holding pattern. Ost says the building’s HVAC units, which were to be here in April, have yet to arrive despite the best efforts of their project manager, Woodruff Construction.

Ost says once the HVAC units arrive, they could be on the fast track to having their new location ready for occupation by children. However, she says it’s not likely to happen by the start of the new school year for Charles City on August 24th.

TLC had hoped to have children in the new location by early July. Ost says until they’re ready to make that transition, they’ll move non-essential items to North Grand.  

With the expansion, TLC will be able to increase the number of children they can serve from their current 93-child capacity to about 165 kids.

The 1930’s portion of the former middle school is being remodeled into residential apartments.
