Charles City, Circle K/NIACOG Renew Transit Contract

Transit transportation in Charles City will continue to be served by its current provider.

The City Council this week officially approved renewing its contract with Circle K Communications of Charles City, which delivers the day-to-day services, and NIACOG, which oversees general operations.

City Administrator Steve Diers says the City will increase its monthly compensation for transit service by 4%, but ticket rates for riders will remain unchanged.

While ticket prices won’t change, ridership is up every month this year compared to 2021 through May. Diers says the transit service has also added another bus for non-emergency medical transfers (NEMT).

Charles City Public Transit has also seen an increase in preschoolers riding buses to private preschools not served by the school district bus system. Transit is full for this fall with 60 kids already signed up, but a waiting list is available.
