Supply Chain Issues Will Continue to Delay Floyd County Bridge Project

Replacing a Floyd County bridge on Jersey Avenue, about 10 miles west of Charles City, continues to be in a holding pattern.

The project was already planned for July, but due to safety concerns, inspectors shut the bridge down and it was removed in early May, about four to six months earlier than anticipated.

Floyd County Engineer Jacob Page told the Board of Supervisors Monday that the bridge remains out of service and could be until September because manufacturers have been unable to make the box culverts they need to replace the bridge.

Page says he tried to get the bridge replacement bumped up on the list, but it’s not likely to happen at this point. He says the ultimate goal is to have the bridge replaced in time for fall harvest.
