North Iowa Man Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash

One driver was killed and another seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash last weekend in north Iowa.

The Iowa State Patrol says the collision occurred just east of Cylinder in Palo Alto County just after 10 p.m. Sunday night. A Chevy Silverado driven by 45-year-old Brian Freeman of Garner was westbound on Highway 18, failed to navigate a curve, crossed the centerline, and struck an eastbound vehicle nearly head on, Hit was a Chevy Trailblazer driven by 26-year-old Landon Schiek of Algona.

Schiek died at the scene and Freeman was airlifted by Mercy AirCare to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City.

The Palo Alto Sheriff’s Office, Cylinder Fire Department, Emmetsburg EMS, Emmetsburg Police Department and Palo Alto County Medical Examiner also assisted with the wreck, which remains under investigation.
