Osage Wanted by Several Athletic Conferences

The Osage School District has been a popular target in talks for expansion and/or realignment of athletic conferences across north Iowa.

The Green Devils have been invited by the Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) to join current members including Charles City, New Hampton, Cresco-Crestwood, Decorah and Waukon. The Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) has also extended an invitation for Osage to join their league.

Then there’s Osage’s current home, the Top of Iowa Conference (TIC), which would like them to remain in the TIC, but not in their current spot. During a meeting Thursday of TIC superintendents, Osage was asked to shift to the West Division in an effort to create more competitive balance throughout the conference.

If Osage were to accept that reassignment, the TIC would then extend an invitation for Riceville to join the East Division. Osage and Riceville both share the same superintendent.

The TIC gave Osage a deadline of July 1 to make their decision, with realignment targeted for the start of the 2023-24 school year.

The deadline for the Green Devils to accept the invite to join the UIC for the same school year was recently extended from June 1st to June 30th. The NEIC invitation currently has no deadline, but they would also like to expand for the 2023-24 school year.
