Nashua-Plainfield Scores First-Ever Girls State Track Title

For the first time in school history, Nashua-Plainfield has won the Class 1A team title at the Girls State Track Championships.

The Huskies finished first in the 1A team standings with 59 points, thanks in part to capturing the gold medal in the 800 sprint medley relay won by the tandem of Abby Hyde, Riley Weiss, Mackenzie Foelske and Kadence Huck. Foelske also took third in the 100 meter dash and fourth in the 200, while the NP girls 4-by-400 also took third.

Hyde says it was a big showing for their small program.

Turkey Valley’s Jalyssa Blazek,  who will run collegiately at Iowa next fall, won both the 1A 800 and 1500 meter races.

Other individual titles for area boys include St. Ansgar’s Riley Witt in the 1A 1600 and 3200, plus Charles City’s Ian Collins in the 3A high jump.

Runner-up finishes included Collins in the 3A long jump, Witt in the 1A 800, and Charles City’s Keely Collins in the girls 3A high jump.
