Decorah Man Arrested After Weekend Single-Vehicle Crash

A Decorah man was arrested following a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office says the wreck occurred on River Road about seven miles northeast of Decorah shortly before 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning. A Jeep Patriot driven by 33-year-old Alex Snitker of Decorah was eastbound when he deliberately began to fishtail and told a passenger, 34-year-old Jess Slaughter, also of Decorah, to pull the emergency brake, which caused the vehicle to enter the ditch and roll once.

Authorities added that the crash was not reported by the vehicle’s occupants, but by a passerby. Both Snitker and Slaughter were given rides home and then returned to the scene about an hour later. Slaughter was evaluated by EMS personnel, but required no further medical treatment.

Snitker was arrested for OWI – third offense, a Class D felony, and was also charged with failing to report a personal injury accident, failure to maintain control and careless driving.
