Howard-Winneshiek Schools Interview Superintendent Finalists Monday

The next Superintendent of the Howard-Winneshiek School District is expected to be named this week.

The School Board is slated to meet in special session Monday at 1:30 p.m. in Cresco to interview the three finalists to replace outgoing Superintendent Ted Ihns, who is resigning effective June 30th to take over as Superintendent of Indianola Schools July 1st.  After the interviews Monday, the board could take action to extend a contract offer to Ihns’ successor. A final decision is expected no later than Thursday, May 12th. 

Candidates include Kris Einck of Decorah, currently the superintendent and high school principal of the South Winneshiek School District. He has also served as technology director, athletic director and vocational agriculture teacher. 

Also scheduled to interview is Dr. Michael Volk of Cedar Rapids, currently principal and Instructional Leader of St. Patrick School, Archdiocese of Dubuque Catholic Schools in Anamosa. He has also been a Director of the Talented and Gifted and a high school English teacher.

Rounding out the list of candidates is Michael Wright of Earlham, who previously served 14 years as superintendent at Earlham Schools. His experience also includes being a teacher, principal, and superintendent in Iowa schools for many years.

The Howard-Winneshiek School District retained the services of McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C. to assist in conducting their search. The consultants reviewed, screened, and conducted extensive background checks on a total of fifteen applicants before the School Board selected three candidates as finalists.
