North Iowa Ironhorse Races Could Qualify Runners for Boston Marathon

Distance runners from at least nine states are expected to compete Saturday in north Iowa, looking to run times that could qualify them for the Boston Marathon.

The IronHorse Races include a full marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K races on the Wapsi-Great Western Line (WGWL) Trail located in Riceville. Juliet O’Keefe with the WGWL Trail Association their full marathon course is officially USATF-sanctioned and covers two states.

O’Keefe adds that registration for the long distance running is closed, but those who want to run the 5K can still sign-up, even on Saturday morning. She says proceeds from the races go to trail enhancements.

O’Keefe says that, last year, five runners ran marathon times  that qualified for the Boston Marathon.
