Four More Murals Coming to Charles City in 2022

More murals are coming to exterior walls in Charles City in 2022.

Last summer, two new downtown murals were completed on the southside wall of First Citizens Bank and the north side wall of Snap Fitness. The artworks were funded by the Charles City Arts Center, the Cultural and Entertainment District, hotel-motel tax grants, and private donations.

Mayor Dean Andrews says this year will bring four additional murals to other areas of town.

The murals will be painted on the north wall of the building that houses the Rustic Corner, the backside east wall of Saxony, and the south side wall of the Wisconsin Street apartments, with each business kicking in 10% of the cost. The fourth mural will be on the cement wall along the Cedar River that faces the Charles City Whitewater park.

Andrews says four artists were selected from 11 applications.

Andrews says they’d like to have the Whitewater mural completed in time for RAGBRAI’s arrival on July 28th. The other projects won’t have a distinct timeline, but will likely be finished before this fall.
