New Hampton’s TRIBE Trail Tracks Down New Funding

New Hampton’s TRIBE Trail project looks to be back on track in the wake of recent monetary commitments totaling more than a quarter of a million dollars.

Within the last two weeks, the project has picked up $300,000 in funding, with $100,000 from an anonymous donor, but with the stipulation the the City kick in another $200,000. Which the City Council did last week by earmarking money from the City’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.

Parks and Recreation Director Rick Kramer says the ARPA money is welcomed after the pandemic slowed the project and its fundraising efforts the last two years.

Kramer adds that the anonymous donor also stipulated that another $100,000 must also be raised privately or through grants, which they are actively pursuing. Still, the grand total of $400,000 will be short of the project’s total cost, which Kramer says has gone up over $30,000 since last fall.

Once completed, the third and final phase of the project will connect the TRIBE Trail from Linn Avenue on the south side of New Hampton with the Chickasaw Wellness Center on the west side of town.
