Traffic Stop Leads to Multiple Drug Charges Against Oelwein Man

A traffic stop has led to drug charges against an Oelwein man.

The Independence Police Department says an officer observed a vehicle registration violation in the 1800 block of 3rd Avenue Southeast shortly after 3:30 p.m. Thursday and pulled over the vehicle driven by Michael Gould. A probable cause search of the vehicle found over nine ounces of marijuana and various paraphernalia items.

Gould was arrested and charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana and failure to affix drug tax stamp, both Class D felonies; plus possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.

A follow up investigation led to a joint search warrant between the Independence and Oelwein police departments being executed at Gould’s apartment in Oelwein. Authorities say various narcotic and drug paraphernalia were located in the residence, where another unidentified male subject was also taken into custody on outstanding Oelwein Police warrants.
