Northeast Iowa 9-Year-Old Killed in House Fire Officially Identified

Officials have officially identified a 9-year-old girl killed in a weekend house fire in northeast Iowa.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office says firefighters located the body of Brooklyn Lendt inside the home in Greeley, which was destroyed by the blaze early Saturday morning. Brooklyn is the daughter of Kyle Lendt and Crystal Oberbreckling.

Authorities say the Delaware County Communications Center received a 911 call around 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning reporting the residential fire and that a child was still inside the home. Crews from the Greeley, Edgewood, Delaware and Manchester fire departments responded to the scene.

West Delaware Superintendent Dr. Kristen Rickey says the girl was a 4th grader at Lambert Elementary.

The Sheriff’s Office says the probable cause of the fire was electrical in nature, but the State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating what caused the blaze
