Carbon Pipelines on Agenda of Floyd, Chickasaw County Supervisors Meetings Monday
Carbon pipeline projects in Floyd and Chickasaw counties are on the agendas for supervisor board meetings in both counties Monday.
Summit Carbon Solutions wants the Homeland Energy Solutions ethanol plant between Lawler and New Hampton to be its easternmost starting point to build a pipeline to transport carbon dioxide (CO2) in liquid form to an underground storage facility in North Dakota. The Midwest Carbon Express pipeline would go west through Chickasaw County as well as Floyd and Cerro Gordo counties.
Chickasaw County Supervisors meet in regular session at 9 a.m. and their agenda includes a discussion of a letter of support to the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) regarding Summit’s permit application.
Summit’s carbon pipeline would link up with the Valero Renewables ethanol plant just west of Charles City, which is also being targeted as a starting point for one leg of a separate carbon pipeline proposed by Navigator CO2 Ventures. Their Heartland Greenway pipeline would go south through Floyd County and continue into Franklin and Butler counties to transport liquid CO2 to an underground facility in Illinois.
Floyd County Supervisors meet in regular session at 4 p.m. and their agenda includes a discussion regarding letters to the IUB with concerns about both pipelines running through the county. Their meeting will be held in the EOC/training room of the law enforcement center.
