Parents Express Concerns Over Student Safety at New Hampton Schools

Concerns over student safety were expressed earlier this week at the monthly meeting of the New Hampton School Board.

At issue is past and recent assaults by at least one student against other students not being properly addressed by the school district. Parent Andrea Rochford said she was hesitant to speak in public for fear of retaliation against her own child, but the issue requires more attention from school officials.

Another parent, Ryan Shawver, did not want to reference specific students and incidents, but acknowledged there are safety problems and isn’t sure parents are getting the answers they need.

The School Board could not take any action based on the parents’ comments, but encouraged parents to continue express their concerns to the principals of their child’s school.
