Wind Advisory for Winds Up to 50 mph in Northeast Iowa Thursday

The National Weather Service (NWS) in La Crosse has issued a Wind Advisory from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday for northeast Iowa counties including Mitchell, Howard, Winneshiek, Allamakee, Floyd, Chickasaw, Fayette, and Clayton.

The advisory area includes the cities of Osage, Cresco, Decorah, Waukon, Charles City, New Hampton, Oelwein and Elkader and calls for sustained Southwest winds of 25 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph expected.

The NWS cautions that gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects, tree limbs could be blown down, and a few power outages may result. They also urge using extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle and to secure outdoor objects.

**Due to the high winds, Floyd-Mitchell-Chickasaw Landfill will be closing at 10 a.m. today (04.14).
