Handful of Tornadoes Confirmed from Tuesday’s Storms

At least five area tornadoes have been confirmed from Tuesday night’s storms that crossed north Iowa.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in LaCrosse says an EF-1 twister with max wind speeds of 110 mph was on the ground for just over two miles at Brownville in Mitchell County just before 11 p.m. Tuesday. A few minutes later, an EF-1 with winds up to 100 mph passed through Riceville and was on the ground for just over five miles as it crossed from Mitchell County into Howard County. About 11:15 p.m. that same weather system spawned an EF-0 tornado at Saratoga in Howard County with max wind speeds reaching 75 mph. It was on the ground for less than half a mile.

The NWS in Des Moines has confirmed a tornado ravaged the south side of Mason City Tuesday night, rating it as an EF-1 with wind speeds up to 110 mph and a duration of almost 4.5 miles on the ground. In Hancock County, an EF-0 tornado with winds up to 85 mph and a one-mile path was confirmed at Kanawha.

More tornadoes may still be confirmed from Tuesday night’s storm system. No injuries have been reported.
