Mason City Police Investigate Early Wednesday Morning Shooting

A shooting early Wednesday morning in Mason City has authorities looking for answers.

The Mason City Police Department says a person called shortly before 1 a.m. to request an ambulance for an injured male subject at 814 North Federal Avenue. The caller was uncooperative with details and the Mason City Fire Department was dispatched to the scene. As emergency personnel were treating the 24-year-old, they discovered he had suffered a fresh, non-life-threatening gunshot wound and they immediately contacted MCPD.

Police say they interviewed the victim and a person inside one of the apartments at 814 North Federal, but no one was very cooperative, especially when asked for a specific location of the shooting or why it occurred. The victim does not live there and has no permanent address.

MCPD is asking residents and businesses within a one block radius of 9th Street and North Federal Avenue to review surveillance camera video between 12:30 and 1 a.m. Wednesday morning. They add they are looking for any footage that may show two or more people arguing over a backpack before the shooting, which remains under investigation.
