Charles City School Board Approves Staff Retention Bonuses

Teachers, certified staff, para-educators, support staff, custodians and bus drivers in the Charles City School district will all receive $1,000 retention bonuses.

The School Board approved the across-the-board bonuses at their meeting Monday night. Superintendent Mike Fisher says a portion of the payouts will be funded by the state, after Governor Kim Reynolds announced retention bonuses for certified staff.

Fisher says the retention bonuses are a thank you to staff who’ve served the district during the challenges brought on by the pandemic.

While the district has enough ESSER funds to help cover the bonus payouts, Finance Director Evan Marten says the school will also apply for additional state retention funding that remains available, which would free up ESSER funds for other pandemic-related expenditures in the school district.
