Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office Wants Video Footage in Murder Investigation

The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to come forward with video footage that may help in their investigation of a Decorah man accused of killing his father.

43-year-old Aaron Whittle of has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 74-year-old Lawrence Whittle. The younger Whittle is accused of shooting his father on Thursday, March 17.  Lawrence Whittle was reported missing by family members on Saturday, March 19, but authorities were told at that time that Whittle was last heard from at about 8 a.m. Friday, March 18. His car was found in Moe Park about 10 miles east of Decorah on Saturday.

In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office says, “We are looking for anyone with a business or residential security camera systems with views of the public roads within the Freeport area or within the limits of the attached map. We are specifically looking for video and/or images from Friday, March 18, 2022 from 6:30am-1pm.”

In a press conference Monday, Winneshiek County Sheriff Dan Marx said they were no longer looking for Lawrence Whittle, but did not specifically say they had found his body.
