Charles City Candidate to Run for New Iowa House District 58
While no Democrat has filed candidate papers to run in the new Iowa House District 58, three Republicans have tossed their hats in the ring.
Currently, Floyd and Chickasaw County, plus a section of Cerro Gordo County east of Mason City, make up House District 52, represented currently by Todd Prichard (D) of Charles City. With redistricting brought on by the 2020 census, all but a northwest corner of Floyd County and all of Chickasaw County will shift into the newly created House District 58, along with the eastern two-thirds of Bremer County. Prichard has said he will not seek election in new House District 58.
No other Democrat stepped forward to file to run in the new House District 58 by the Friday, March 18th deadline, but there’s a crowded Republican field. Candidates include Sean Galleger of Fairbank, Jim Wright of Sumner and Charley Thomson of Charles City.
Thomson, a Charles City native, 1978 Charles City graduate and current co-chair of the Floyd County Republican Party, announced his candidacy on Facebook saying, “I want to bring economic development to small town Iowa. Our district is the heartland of Iowa values. Imagine having someone in Des Moines fighting against government regulations and overreach. We could strengthen our workforce, decrease our poverty levels, and bring back our once thriving communities.”
Thomson graduated from the University of Michigan in 1983, earned his law degree from the University of Iowa in 1987, and has been employed at DoALL Company, a manufacturing company out of Illinois, for 21 years serving as Assistant General Counsel. He resides in Charles City.
