Son Charged with Murder in Death of Missing Northeast Iowa Man

A northeast Iowa man reported missing Saturday was killed two days before by his son.
The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 43-year-old Aaron Gary Whittle of Decorah in a Facebook post about 1:30 a.m. Monday morning. He’s accused of shooting 74-year-old Lawrence Paul Whittle, also of Decorah, on Thursday, March 17th, in the younger Whittle’s home at 2622 Sand Rock Road, about five miles northeast of Decorah.
According to a criminal complaint, Aaron Whittle told officials he shot his father and that his description of the shooting matches what law enforcement observed when they were on scene. Aaron Whittle is being held on $1 million cash bond and is currently in custody at the Winneshiek County Jail.
After Lawrence Whittle was reported missing, his vehicle was located at Moe Park in Rural Winneshiek County, about 10 miles east of Decorah, where authorities and officials conducted an extensive search Sunday morning.
The investigation is ongoing, and no other details have been released at this time. If you have any information about the case, please contact the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office at (563) 382-4268
