Matching City Funds for New Hampton Tribe Trail On Hold

Phase III of the Tribe Trail in New Hampton still needs more funding to be completed.

The final section of the project is expected to cost over $500,000. Mayor Bobby Schwickerath says the Tribe Trail Committee made a pitch last week to the City Council for the City to provide matching grant funds of up to $250,000.

Schwickerath noted that the project, thus far, has been self-sustaining.

The Council voted to table any action on the request to allow more time for the public to weigh in on the issue, which is expected to be discussed further during their next meeting on March 21st.

Phase I of the Tribe Trail connected Mikkelson Park over to Logan Street in 2017. Phase II extended the trail from Logan west to Linn Avenue and was completed in 2019. Phase III will take the recreational path from Linn out to the Chickasaw Wellness Complex near New Hampton High School.
