Benefit Saturday for Alta Vista Family Who Lost Home to Fire

The Josh and Theresa Douglas family, including five children, lost their home and belongings in Alta Vista to a fire on November 27, 2021.

A benefit to raise money for the family this Saturday night at the Alta Vista Hall includes a free will donation pulled pork meal and silent auction from 4 to 6 p.m. with a live auction to follow. New Hampton Elementary School teacher Dennis Pagel is helping organize the event.

Pagel says contributions of silent auction items are still welcome as well as monetary donations. Pagel adds that only cash and checks will be accepted at the benefit.

A benefit account has also been established at People’s Savings Bank in Elma. There’s also a GoFundMe account for the Douglas family which has already surpassed its $5,000 goal by almost $1,200.

You can find more information to the Douglas family benefit here.

In addition to the Alta Vista Fire Department, Elma, North Washington and New Hampton firefighters assisted in battling the blaze last Thanksgiving weekend. Chickasaw County Rescue Squad, Chickasaw County Ambulance and Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
