Unincorporated Floyd County Voters to Decide One-Cent LOSST

Voters in unincorporated areas of Floyd County head to the polls Tuesday to decide whether a one-cent local option sales and service tax (LOSST) extends beyond this year.

The current tax is set to expire December 31st. If renewed, it would begin another 10-year run January 1st, 2023. Supervisor Roy Schwickerath says the county’s secondary roads will continue to benefit from the funding the tax generates.

Schwickerath adds, that while the ballot measure doesn’t say it, LOSST offers a form of property tax relief.

Schwickerath says the county would continue to do road projects if there was no LOSST, but they would take longer to complete without the revenue the tax provides. He says the county also benefits from visitors who also pay the one-cent sales tax.
