While still in its investigative stage, there have been discussions about the possible merger of the Northeast Iowa and Upper Iowa conferences.
Superintendent Jay Jurrens told the New Hampton School Board Monday night that superintendents from both leagues have met to consider the formation of one super conference.
Jurrens added that scheduling has become tougher in recent years.
Jurrens says one large conference could also benefit fine arts, speech and music programs as well giving the area a stronger voice at the state level.
Jurrens told the school board he he doesn’t think the merger will happen, but conversations within the two conferences are expected to continue this week and next.
