Take Advantage of Free Tax Prep in Charles City, Osage, Mason City

Free tax preparation services are available through Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, including at their offices in Floyd, Mitchell, and Cerro Gordo counties.

Brenda Schmitt is an ISU Human Services Specialist in family finance and says they’ll do tax returns for individuals and families with annual income under $56,000, but be sure to come prepared.

Schmitt says the free tax prep services are available at the Extension offices in Mason City on Mondays, Charles City on Tuesdays, and Osage on Fridays. She also coordinates the program in Hampton and Spencer. Appointments are required.

Schmitt reminds people doing their own taxes that COVID stimulus payments are not taxed, but must still be listed on your return.

Schmitt adds that she doesn’t expect any changes to filing dates this tax season due to COVID, but the pandemic is still having lingering effects.

You can find more information on ISU Extension’s free tax prep services below.
