Northeast Iowa Woman Arrested for Stealing from Employer

A northeast Iowa woman has been arrested for allegedly stealing money from her employer.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office says 38-year-old Trisha Kountkofsky of Ridgeway was taken into custody at about 7 p.m. Thursday night on a warrant for second-degree theft, a Class D felony. According to a criminal complaint, Kountkofsky is accused of taking between $5,000 and $7,000 from Randy’s Bluffton Store, located about 15 miles northwest of Decorah.

The sheriff’s office says the store owner reported he suspected Kountkofsky was stealing money and they had caught her in the act on store surveillance video January 31st. A review of camera footage appears to show Kountkofsky with the store’s money bag when she reached in and removed an unknown amount of money and stuffed in her shirt.

Authorities questioned Kountkofsky on February 9th. She denied the accusations and as she drove away, it was discovered she was driving with a license that was suspended, denied, or revoked.

The store owner says he suspected Kountkofsky of taking money previously and court documents show that her charge of second-degree theft dates back to last June 1st.
