Decorah Police Department Reinstates K-9 Program

Decorah Police Department has announced the reinstatement of its Police K-9 Program!

In a Facebook post, the department says they have added K-9 officer, Loki, to its staff. Loki will be trained in narcotics detection and tracking missing persons. The one-year-old German Shepard will also provide emotional support for officers and attend events and programs in the Decorah Schools and Community.

Decorah Police Chief David Scmutzler says K-9 Handler, Officer Nick Yaneff, and Loki will be training locally for certification over the coming months.

The Decorah Police Department is seeking support from the community and the surrounding area for this new program! Donations may be dropped off at, or mailed to, the Decorah Police Department at 400 Claiborne Drive, Decorah, IA 52101 with “K9 Fund” as the subject.
