Today (02.14) is Final Day to Request Mailing of Absentee Ballots

Monday (02.140 is the final day to request having an absentee ballot mailed to you in advance of the Tuesday, March 1st, special elections in Floyd and Chickasaw counties.
In Floyd County, there are two separate one-cent local option sales and service tax (LOSST) measures up for vote. The City of Charles City LOSST would allocate 90% of the revenue generated to street projects and 10% to public safety including police, fire and ambulance. The LOSST in the unincorporated areas of Floyd County would be spent 100% on road projects. If either is approved, the tax would go into effect for 10 years starting January 1st, 2023. Both have current LOSST taxes expiring December 31st.
In Chickasaw County, voters in District 1 will decide who will replace Rick Holthaus on the Board of Supervisors, after his seat came open when Holthaus died in early January. Five candidates are running, with the winner on March 1st serving out the remainder of the term through December 31st, 2024.
To have an absentee ballot mailed, a written request must be received at the county auditor’s offices Monday by the end of regular business hours. Absentee ballots may be cast in person at the county auditor’s offices through Monday, February 28th, during regular business hours.
In Floyd County, the auditor’s office in Charles City is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through Monday, February 28th, with the office open until 5 pm both Friday, the 25th, and Monday, the 28th. In Chickasaw County, the auditor’s office in New Hampton is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, through Monday, February 28th, when the office is open that day until 5 p.m.
Polls will be open on election day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in both counties.
