The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) is requesting public input for a proposed bridge replacement on U.S. Highway 18, north of Ionia in Chickasaw County.
The DOT’s proposed project involves replacing the existing 62-foot by 36-foot prestressed concrete beam bridge over Winters Lake Overflow with a three-span 120-foot by 44-foot continuous concrete slab bridge. New bridge approaches will be constructed, existing guardrail replaced, and the shoulders will be paved 20-feet beyond the ends of the guardrail.
Construction of the project, about three miles east of Chickasaw County Road T-76, is expected to begin in 2024. Through traffic on U.S. 18 would be detoured using Chickasaw county roads V-14, B-57 and T-76.
Public comments must be received by February 28th to be considered.
