December Jobless Rates Up Across North Iowa

While the unemployment rate for the state as a whole was down from November to December, jobless rates were up across north Iowa counties for the same period.

According to Iowa Workforce Development, unemployment was at 3.2% in Floyd County for December, up from 2.8% in November. Chickasaw County’s jobless rate in December was 2.9%, up from 2.1% in November.

Butler County saw one of the largest increases in unemployment, up 0.9% to 3.2% in December. Fayette and Winneshiek county jobless rates were both up 0.8% to 3.6% and 3.0% respectively.

Elsewhere, Howard County went from 2.4% unemployment in November to 3.1% in December; Cerro Gordo rose from 2.7% to 3.0%; Worth went from 2.7 to 3.1%; Franklin was up from 2.2% to 2.8%; Bremer increased from 2.0% to 2.5%; and Mitchell County had the smallest increase in unemployment from 1.8% in November to 2.0% in December.

The state unemployment rate for December was 3.5%, down from 3.7% in November.
