One Person Dead Following North Iowa House Fire

Officials have identified the person who died in a house fire early Wednesday morning in north Iowa.
The Worth County Sheriff’s received a report of a fire in the 200 block of 14th Street South in Northwood shortly after 3:30 a.m. Wednesday. A deputy first on the scene was able to evacuate one person from the home before it became fully engulfed in flames. Attempts by authorities to rescue a second person inside the house were unsuccessful due to the extent of the fire. The victim has been identified as 52-year-old Douglas Braun of Northwood. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Northwood Fire Department was assisted by firefighters from Kensett and Mason City to extinguish the blaze. Worth County Emergency Management and Alliant Energy also assisted with the incident.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called to assist with the investigation of the fire.
