Northeast Iowa School Bus Collides with Train

Two students suffered minor injuries after the school bus they were riding was hit by a train in northeast Iowa Tuesday morning.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday involving a Postville School District bus and a train in Bloomfield Township, between Postville and Castalia. Two students and the bus driver were the only three individuals on the bus. Officials say the students were checked out by emergency services and taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where they  were later released with minor injuries.

The driver was taken by private vehicle for medical evaluation. There were no injuries to the crew on the Canadian Pacific train.

The Postville School bus was a total loss while the train sustained minor damage.

The collision remains under investigation and we will bring you more information as it becomes official.
