Charles City Officials Continue Work on Fiscal Year 2023 Budget

Charles City officials continue work on the City’s budget for the 2023 fiscal year.
City Administrator Steve Diers says the process is always challenging, but even more so when there’s less money to work with.
Diers says the City will need to make up for that revenue decline.
One revenue source the City hopes continues is the one-cent local option sales tax (LOST). The current LOST expires December 31st, 2022, and Diers reminds residents that a new LOST is up for vote on March 1st, which, if approved, would take effect for another 10-year period on January 1st, 2023.
Diers says 90% of revenues from the new LOST will continue to go towards street projects, while 10% will be used for public safety expenses.
