Charles City Council Approves UTV Registration Fees

Earlier this month, Charles City approved a new ordinance allowing UTVs to be driven in city limits. Now, registration fees for those vehicles have been set.

At their regular meeting Wednesday night, the City Council approved a separate ordinance establishing a yearly registration fee of $30 as well as a one-time fee of $5 for UTVs that may come into town as part of an event.

Councilman Keith Starr says he’s heard from constituents who feel the fees are counterproductive to attracting visiting UTV operators.

Councilman Phillip Knighten explained why he sees the need for the fees, but also asked if the City has done enough to regulate UTVs on city streets.

In passing the UTV fees ordinance, the council also agreed to review the policy in about six months.
