Positive COVID Numbers Continue to Climb Across North Iowa

 The number of new positive COVID cases in Floyd County has more than tripled in recent weeks.

According to the Iowa Department of Public Health coronavirus dashboard, Floyd County recorded 180 new COVID cases for the seven-day reporting period ending Tuesday, January 18th. That’s up from 127 cases the week prior and up from 54 two weeks ago. The latest increase gives the county a seven-day positivity rate of 22%.

Chickasaw County recorded 128 new positive COVID cases this week, up slightly from 118 a week earlier, but still enough to push the county’s positivity rate to 24%. Also with a seven-day positivity rate of 24% is Cerro Gordo County, which had 447 new COVID cases this week, up from 431 the week before.

Other counties seeing increases in COVID cases this week include Bremer with 225, up from 209 last week;  Winneshiek with 151, up from 129; Fayette with 174, up from 165; Franklin with 132, up from 99; Butler with 124, up from 94; and Howard with 81, up from 60.

Two counties saw slight decreases in new Positive COVID cases for the seven-day period ending Tuesday, January 18th. Worth County’;s 89 cases this week fell from 98 a week earlier while Mitchell County dropped from 108 COVID cases last week to 76 this week.

The state’s seven-day positivity rate was 26.2% while its 14-day positivity rate was 24.8%.
