Floyd County Sheriff’s Office Moves Into to New LEC

With renovations continuing at the Floyd County Courthouse and construction of the new Law Enforcement Center in Charles City nearing completion, county officials hope they can save additional money as things move forward.

During their regular board meeting Monday morning, Supervisor Linda Tjaden said that, as the project proceeds, they should continue to discuss scaling back the direct involvement of the site superintendent, Brian Schindelar of the Samuels Group, in an effort to cut costs from their $26,000 per month fee for work that should already be finished.

Crews have begun putting in new windows on the fourth floor of the courthouse and will continue to work their way down to the ground floor. The new windows, combined with the installation of central air, will mean the removal of the window air conditioning units throughout the building. 

While there’s still nothing definitive on the migration of the inmates from the jail on the fourth floor of the courthouse into the new LEC, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office has made the move to the LEC. 

A department Facebook post says, “The Sheriff’s Office has moved to the new Law Enforcement  Center.  If you need to conduct any business with the Sheriff’s Office, please use the entryway to the west of the courthouse.”

The post also asks for patience with the on-going construction with the courthouse and the entryway.
