Special Election Coming to Select New Chickasaw County Supervisor

There will be a special election to select a successor to Chickasaw County District 1 Supervisor Rick Holthaus, who passed away earlier this month.

County Auditor Stephanie Mashek says a petition was submitted to her office on Tuesday to request the special election to name Holthaus’ replacement. Until the special election, Mashek says a Committee of County Officers consisting of herself, Recorder Shirley Troyna and Treasurer Sue Breitbach, will still need to appoint an interim supervisor.

Holthaus was elected to the Board of Supervisors in November 2020 and his four-year term runs through December 31st, 2024.

Mashek says Holthaus, who also served previous stints as a supervisor, will be missed.

Mashek says the special election could be held in late February, but could be pushed into early March depending on when ballots are ready and voting machines can be programmed accordingly.
