Mason City Man Facing Multiple Charges in Rudd House Fire

A house fire Saturday in Rudd has led to multiple charges against a Mason City man.
The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 33-year-old Tyrone Jones for allegedly attacking his girlfriend before setting the home on Hampton Street in Rudd on fire. According to court documents, Jones has been charged with first-degree arson, domestic abuse assault, third-degree theft, and false imprisonment.
Jones is alleged to have kicked the victim in the face, back, and head, strangled her until she lost consciousness, and burnt her with a cigarette. Investigators say Jones also stole her phones and started a fire at his girlfriend’s home before leaving. A criminal complaint indicates Jones himself reported the fire shortly before noon Saturday.
The female victim also accused Jones of previous abuse including tying her hands and feet to her bed with rope on a previous occasion. Jones has been booked into the Floyd County Jail on $33,000 bond.
Fire departments from Rudd, Nora Springs, Marble Rock, Osage, Rockford, Floyd, and Charles City responded to the house fire. Firefighters were on the scene initially for over three hours and had to return to the residence at about 10 p.m. Saturday night to extinguish a flare up. The house is considered a total loss.
