Conditions for ice fishing in north Iowa have benefited from the frigid temperatures to start the new year.
However, Iowa DNR Conservation Officer for Floyd and Mitchell counties, Jacob Fulk, advises caution for ice fisherman regardless of how thick the ice may be.
Fulk adds that ice thickness requirements also vary based on your activity on the ice.
Fulk says ice thickness should be 12 to 15 inches thick for vehicles.
Fulk also recommends wearing a life jacket and letting someone know when you’re heading out onto the ice, or better yet, have another person go with you.
