UTVs, ATVs Get Greenlight to for Expanded Operation in Charles City

Use of UTVs and ATVs in the city limits will be expanded under a new ordinance approved in Charles City.
The City Council Monday night heard the third and final reading of the ordinance that allows for more UTV and ATV traffic, but with some restrictions according to City Administrator Steve Diers.
The ordinance also changes the cutoff snowmobile operation in the city at 12 a.m. on Sunday mornings, which will be the same as the rest of the week.
New City Councilman Patrick Lumley supports the ordinance, but would also like to see a timely review of its results.
he ordinance, which will go into effect as soon as it’s published in the newspaper, did not change prohibiting the operation of golf carts in city limits. Also not included was the price of fees for permits and how often UTVs and ATVs must be registered. Diers noted that would need to be addressed with a separate ordinance.
