Pure Prairie Farms Readies Takeover of Former Simply Essentials Plant in Charles City

Simply put, the sale of the former Simply Essentials chicken processing plant in Charles City was “complicated.”

Finally, on December 17th, the sale became official and the journey of the new ownership group, Pure Prairie Farms, had come to fruition.  KCHA/KCZE News talked with Anita Janssen is the company’s Vice-President of Strategic Initiatives.

Janssen says the wheels are already in motion to get the plant up and running again.

Janssen did not provide details on plant improvements, but says production flow is a target area.

Janssen adds that Pure Prairie Farms hopes to have the plant back in operation by late spring with about 50 employees on board. She says they’ll begin taking applications for employment once a start date has been established.

Simply Essentials shut down in August of 2019 due to financial issues, putting some 500 people out of work.
