Strong winds caused a variety of damages across north Iowa Wednesday night, including those associated with a possible tornado in Rudd.
Floyd County Emergency Management Agency Coordinator Drew Mitchell says while damages were extensive in Rudd, the rest of the county was spared from significant impact.
Floyd County was under Tornado Warning from about 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night. During the warning period, data from the National Weather Service in LaCrosse shows a maximum wind speed in Charles City of 55 miles per hour at 7:15 p.m.
The top wind speed for Charles City Wednesday night was 61 mph recorded just before 11 p.m. A top wind gust of 64 mph was recorded in New Hampton shortly after 6:30 p.m. and a gust of 63 mph was recorded in the Ionia area at about 7:20 p.m.
