Like many city departments, the Charles City Parks and Rec Department is currently working on their budget for the next fiscal year starting July 1, 2022.
Park-Rec Director Tyler Mitchell says the process can be challenging when funding comes from multiple sources and fluctuates year-to-year.
Mitchell says his department will come up with a wish list and they’ll know what they can or can’t do when they get their final budget in March.
The department is also trying to identify more long term goals with the possible development of a master park plan, which Mitchell says could help determine the fate of the municipal swimming pool at Lions Field.
Mitchell says they’re still in the exploratory phase of whether to contract with a company to bring together a master park plan for Charles City.
