While there’s still no set date for moving inmates into the new Floyd County Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Charles City, officials are getting things ready for the eventual migration.
Inmates are currently housed on the fourth floor of the courthouse, but the first steps to begin moving them into the LEC will begin taking shape Wednesday morning. Crews will be working to create a temporary passageway through the courthouse assembly room on the ground level into the lobby of the new facility.
Floyd County Board of Supervisors Chair Linda Tjaden says the objectives of the entryway include allowing regular work to continue within the courthouse while maintaining security when the inmate transfer comes along.
Work to create the passageway is expected to take about two weeks.
