It’s an early start time of 5:30 p.m. for tonight’s (11.08) regular meeting of the Charles City School Board.
It’s the first meeting since last week’s school board elections which resulted in successful re-election for Josh Mack, the current Board President. Mack says campaigning took a lot of hard work, including hundreds of phone calls to prospective voters.
David Schrodt received the most votes with Kathryn Fox finishing second to earn board seats. Mack took the final seat by winning a tight battle for third. He says the turnout shows people in the school district are engaged.
One of the key issues in the election was improving students’ test scores. Mack says recent strides in those scores show it’s a work in progress.
Pending official canvass of election results by the Floyd County Board of Supervisors Tuesday, Mack, Schrodt and Fox will officially be sworn in to the school board at the November 29th regular meeting. The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors will also conduct an initial canvass of city and school board elections in Chickasaw County tomorrow as well.
Prior to tonight’s regular school board meeting in the high school library, there will be a special meeting at 5 p.m. in which the board will go into closed session to review goal settings for Superintendent Mike Fisher.
The New Hampton School Board regular meeting for November tonight is a week earlier than normal. Their meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. in the High School Media Center.
