Students, Driver Suffer Minor Injuries in Charles City School Bus Rollover

A Charles City Community School bus was involved in a rollover crash while transporting students home from school Monday afternoon.

The Iowa State Patrol says the crash occurred in the 1700 block of Victory Avenue, about two miles north of Northeast Iowa Regional Airport, at approximately 4 p.m.  The bus, driven by 70-year-old Bonnie Lore of Ionia, was northbound when it entered the ditch and rolled onto its side.

The school district says four students and the bus driver sustained minor injuries and were transported by AMR Ambulance to the Floyd County Medical Center for evaluation. Another bus was dispatched to transport the remaining students home and several parents picked up their students from the site. All injured were treated and released.

In a statement, the district added that the students on the bus are to be commended for helping their peers and the driver off the bus after the accident. Our Emergency Communication Response Team implemented our emergency protocol for bus accidents and contacted parents directly this afternoon.”

About 20 students were on the bus at the time of the wreck.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office and Colwell Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
