Unemployment rates showed a decrease across our north Iowa region in September when compared to August.
According to Iowa Workforce Development, the jobless rate in Floyd County in September was 2.8%, down from 4.0% in August. Chickasaw County unemployment declined from 3.1% in August to 2.5% in September.
Winneshiek County saw the biggest drop percentage-wise in the jobless rate, going from 3.6% unemployment in August to 2.3% in September. Fayette and Bremer counties were both down by 1% to 3.0% and 2.2% respectively. Cerro Gordo and Howard counties were both down .9% from August to September at 2.9% and 2.1% respectively.
Franklin County was down .8% to 2.5%, Butler County declined by .7% to 2.6%, and Worth County dipped by .6% to 3.0%. Also dropping by .6% unemployment from August to September was Mitchell County, where it’s 1.9% overall jobless rate was the lowest in the area.
The state unemployment rate for September was 4.0%, down from 4.1% in August.
